This week’s photography trip was an evening outing to Lepe Beach, a beach not a million miles away from where I live. My endeavour to learn outdoor and landscape photography has been focused on the forest so far, so I thought something a bit different may be worthwhile.
Lepe Country Park and Beach is not a smooth sandy beach, but a shingle, pebble beach. While this may not be great for sunbathing, I don’t care, as I am here to take photographs!
How to get to Lepe Beach
Lepe Country Park has its own car park. One on the seafront, the other slightly elevated in the country park.
Check their website for prices and times etc, as they do change through the seasons.

The Conditions
Even though it was sunset, I was not chasing after the typical sunset photographs. I more intent on singling out compositions that I could work with.
I arrived 30 minutes before low tide, so the sea was some way out. This did reveal a lot of shapes, and patterns in the rocks, as you are about to see.
On the downside, there was quite a breeze, so it didn’t help the tripod security or the video recording! Let’s take a look at some images.

The Photos
There only took 3 or 4 photos, and I am displaying all of them over the next few paragraphs.
The first one was a composition that presented itself as the tide was so far out.
An old, battered lobster-type fishing cage just revealing itself due to the low tide.
Pleased that I had a half-decent image in the bag early on, I turned my attention to the old pier.
This is the remains of the structure that aided the war efforts with troops and boats being able to leave for D Day.
I do not like this photo, and I plan to return when the sunrise is later (the car park doesn’t open until 7 am) and try and get a better one.
In all honesty, that was going to be that, but, as often happens, on the walk back to the car two other compositions caught my eye.
The first is water gushing from a pipe being fed from the marshland area on the other side of the beach. Standing on the pipe, shooting down got this rather interesting composition. Even if it was a little more rushed than I would have liked.
The next is taken from one of the car parks.
The trees of the park are silhouetted against the warm sky, as the sun gave us its last glow of the day.
If not for the chilly breeze coming in over the Solent, you could almost believe you were standing on a cliff somewhere in California!! No? Just me then!
