About Richard Chubb – Travel Photography and Writing

Welcome to my world of travel photography and writing, where every road trip becomes a story waiting to be told.

Through the lens of my camera and the rhythm of my words, I capture the landscapes, people, and unexpected moments that make each journey unique. From quiet mountain trails to bustling city streets. My goal is to bring the spirit of each place to life — preserving not just what it looks like, but how it feels. Whether you’re here for inspiration, tips, or perhaps simply to explore vicariously. My work blends photography and storytelling to celebrate the adventure of travel in all its forms.

Travel Photography and Writing: Exploring the World One Road Trip at a Time
Hi, I’m Richard — a traveler, photographer, and storyteller with an endless curiosity for the world beyond the horizon.

Welcome to my space dedicated to Travel Photography and Writing, where the open road is both my studio and my muse.

For me, travel isn’t just about reaching a destination. It’s about the journey itself — the long, winding roads, the unexpected detours, and the small, beautiful moments that unfold along the way.

Through my camera, my words, and my videos, I aim to share the stories behind each journey. Inspiring others to see the world with new eyes.

The Road Trip Spirit

There’s something magical about a road trip — that first turn of the key, the hum of the engine, and the thrill of setting off with no clear idea of what lies ahead. The freedom of the open road has always called to me. It’s where I feel most alive and most connected to the world around me.

Each journey brings its own surprises. The road might lead to a mountain pass glowing in the evening light. A quiet coastal village where time seems to stand still, or a stretch of highway where the horizon never ends. That sense of discovery is what drives both my travel photography and writing. Every mile holds the potential for a story, and every image becomes a piece of that narrative.

The beauty of road trips is that they slow you down enough to really see. You notice the patterns of clouds over the desert, the reflections in a puddle after rain, or the character of an old gas station that’s long out of business. These moments are fleeting, but photography helps me hold onto them — not just as pictures, but as memories of wonder.

The Heart of Travel Photography

“Travel photography and writing are my way of documenting the world — capturing authentic moments, vivid landscapes, and the emotions that define every journey.”

Travel Photography and Writing

My journey as a photographer started in a very different world: the fast-paced arenas of sports and event photography. Capturing events in motion taught me a lot about timing, light, and precision. But as the years went by, I found myself craving something more personal — images that told deeper stories.

That’s when I turned toward travel photography. On the road, the pace changes. You stop chasing the action and start observing the world. The lens becomes a way of connecting — not just with landscapes, but with people, cultures, and the emotions that shape a place.

When I photograph, I’m always looking for details that others might miss: the early morning light spilling over a mountain ridge, the laughter of locals at a roadside café, or the way shadows stretch across an empty field. These moments don’t shout for attention, but they carry meaning. Through travel photography and writing, I try to capture that quiet magic — the essence of a place and how it makes you feel.

Hiking and Photography
Finding Stillness in Motion

While road trips are my favorite way to travel, not every path can be reached on wheels. Sometimes, the most breathtaking views require lacing up your boots and following a trail into the wild.

Hiking has become a natural extension of my travel photography. It takes me deeper into landscapes untouched by highways — hidden waterfalls, mountain ridges, and quiet forests where the only sounds are birds and the wind. These are the places that test your patience and reward you with moments of pure stillness.

Now that I’m on the far side of 50, hiking also brings a new kind of balance. I’ll admit it — I’ve never been a huge fan of exercise! But hiking gives movement a purpose. It’s exercise disguised as exploration. Every uphill climb feels worth it when you reach a summit and see the world spread out below you. It’s in those moments that I truly understand why I love travel photography and writing — because both are about finding perspective.

Travel Writing: Telling the Stories Behind the Images

Travel Photography and Writing

A photograph can say a lot, but words fill in the spaces between. That’s why travel writing is just as important to me as photography. Together, they tell the full story.

Through writing, I capture the sounds, scents, and emotions that can’t always be shown in an image. The quiet rustle of trees on a mountain trail. The smell of rain on hot pavement. The laughter of strangers turned friends around a campfire. These are the details that transform travel from sightseeing into storytelling.

When I sit down to write after a trip, I try to relive the journey — not just where I went, but what I learned. Travel teaches you humility and patience. It reminds you that the world is vast, diverse, and full of kindness if you know where to look.

My hope is that my travel photography and writing inspires others to slow down, look closer, and appreciate the stories unfolding around them every day — whether that’s halfway across the world or just down the road.

Behind the Lens and Beyond the Page: My YouTube Channel

Of course, not every story fits neatly into words or still images. Some moments need sound and motion to truly come alive. That’s why I also share my journeys on my YouTube channel. There I post travel videos that capture the experience of being on the road in real time.
There, you’ll find behind-the-scenes footage from my trips — from the early morning light setups to drone shots of winding roads and short travel documentaries about the people and places that shape my adventures. You’ll hear the hum of the engine, the crunch of gravel underfoot, and sometimes even the laughter (and frustration!) that comes with life on the road.
If you enjoy the content here, I’d love for you to subscribe and join me visually on my travels. It’s an extension of my storytelling — another way to bring travel photography and writing to life in motion
